What Is Dhauti Kriya?

What Is Dhauti Kriya? Dhauti Kriya is one of the six purification practices of Shatkarma in Hatha Yoga, specifically aimed at cleansing the digestive tract and removing deep-seated toxins from the body. The word dhauti comes from the Sanskrit root dhau, meaning “to wash” or “to cleanse,” reflecting its purpose of purifying internal organs such as the stomach, esophagus, mouth, and intestines. Dhauti includes several techniques like Vaman Dhauti (vomiting cleansing), Vastra Dhauti (cloth cleansing), and Danta Dhauti (oral cleansing), each designed to enhance digestive health, regulate metabolism, and restore internal balance. When practiced correctly under expert guidance, Dhauti Kriya helps reduce digestive disorders, increase vitality, and create a lighter, more purified physical and energetic state.
