Yoga Neti Kriya

Yoga Neti Kriya is an ancient yogic cleansing technique that holds a special place among the Shatkarma practices described in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. It is primarily designed to purify the nasal passages, promoting clear breathing and overall respiratory health. In Yoga Neti Kriya, a small pot called a Neti pot is used to pour warm saline water through one nostril, allowing it to flow out through the other. This gentle yet powerful practice helps remove accumulated mucus, dust, and toxins from the nasal cavity, which can otherwise lead to sinus congestion, allergies, or headaches. Beyond physical cleansing, Yoga Neti Kriya also has profound mental and energetic benefits—it balances the flow of prana (life force energy) between the ida and pingala nadis, the two main energy channels associated with the left and right nostrils. Regular practice of Yoga Neti Kriya enhances mental clarity, improves concentration, and promotes calmness, making it an essential preparatory step before pranayama (breath control) and meditation. It is especially beneficial for individuals living in polluted environments or those who frequently suffer from colds and sinus issues. Practicing Yoga Neti Kriya under the guidance of a qualified yoga teacher ensures proper technique and maximum benefits while maintaining the sacred balance between hygiene, health, and inner peace.
