Are Academic Editing Services Changing How We Approach Assignment Writing?

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the way we approach assignment writing, especially with the growing availability of support tools and services. One thing that keeps coming up in conversations is the use of academic editing service providers. It makes me wonder are these services are simply a modern form of support, or are they changing something more fundamental about how we learn and write?

Is it just about catching grammar mistakes and fixing formatting, or do these services end up shaping the structure and style of a student’s work in ways that go beyond basic editing? And what about originality can we still fully claim a piece of writing as our own if it’s been edited extensively?

At the same time, for non-native English speakers or students juggling multiple deadlines, an academic editing service might feel less like a shortcut and more like a lifeline. So, is it fair to judge their use across the board?

I don’t have a clear answer, which is why I’m curious how do others feel about this. Have you ever used an academic editing service? If so, did it help you learn and improve your writing, or did it feel like outsourcing part of the process?
