Instead, the horror stems from the creeping feeling that something is fundamentally wrong. The uncanny valley effect is strong as you try to decipher minute differences in appearance or behavior that betray the imposters. These doppelgangers aren't always monstrous; sometimes, they are disturbingly close to the real residents, making your job all the more nerve-wracking.
